Relationship of Adiposity and Insulin Resistance Mediated by Inflammation in a Group of Overweight and Obese Chilean Adolescents
نویسندگان
چکیده
The mild chronic inflammatory state associated with obesity may be an important link between adiposity and insulin resistance (IR). In a sample of 137 overweight and obese Chilean adolescents, we assessed associations between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), IR and adiposity; explored sex differences; and evaluated whether hs-CRP mediated the relationship between adiposity and IR. Positive relationships between hs-CRP, IR and 2 measures of adiposity were found. Hs-CRP was associated with waist circumference (WC) in boys and fat mass index (FMI) in girls. Using path analysis, we found that hs-CRP mediated the relationship between adiposity (WC and FMI) and the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) (p < 0.05) in both sexes. Our novel finding is that inflammation statistically mediated the well described link between increased adiposity and IR.

Background & Aims : Eotaxin is an important chemokine in asthma prevalence and adiponectin, with anti-inflammatory properties, acts as an agent that can decrease the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of eight weeks of interval endurance training on plasma eotaxin, adiponectin levels , insulin resistance, serum lipid profile, an...

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs) is an endocrine-metabolic disorder. This study intends to determine the comparison of insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic disturbance in overweight/obese and normal-weight of young women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Methods: Using a comparative cross-sectional study design in 2015, 27 normal weight (18<bmi Results: 112 women with PCOS participa...
متن کاملP-148: Effect of A Low Glycemic Index Diet on Insulin Resistance and Reproductive Hormones
Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disease in women affecting 5-10% of those of childbearing age. The majority of women with PCOS, regardless of weight, have a form of insulin resistance that is intrinsic to the syndrome. Obese women with PCOS have an added burden of insulin resistance related to their adiposity. Given the association of obesity and insuli...

Background and objectives: Previous investigations have shown that physical activity can improve insulin sensitivity and body composition by reducing the concentration of inflammatory biomarkers. The study aimed at evaluating effects of eight weeks of resistance training and high-intensity interval training on adropin, blood glucose markers, and body composition in overweight females. Methods:...

Obesity is a rising health problem, with increasing prevalence in children and adolescents. Lower vitamin D is linked to increased adiposity and higher risk of metabolic syndrome. However, evidence from tropical Asian countries is limited, especially in children and adolescents. To examine the relationship between vitamin D level and BMI, abnormal glucose profile, insulin resistance and metabol...
